An Island Retreat
An hour away from Vancouver, the cabins of Bodega Cove by Bodega Ridge are a welcome retreat.

Within minutes of reaching the property my partner and I were immediately relaxed. We were lucky to have sunny days in the middle of the rainy Pacific Northwest winter. I could see this being a wonderful escape from the rain, as we didn’t want to leave the warmth of our wood stove. We did decide to take full advantage of the winter sun though, and headed out for some adventure. Even though Galiano Island is a small strip of land on the Salish Sea, there is a lot to explore.
A los pocos minutos de llegar a la propiedad, mi pareja y yo nos relajamos de inmediato. Tuvimos la suerte de tener días soleados en medio del lluvioso invierno del noroeste del Pacífico. Pude ver que esto era un maravilloso escape de la lluvia, ya que no queríamos dejar el calor de nuestra estufa de leña. Sin embargo, decidimos aprovechar al máximo el sol de invierno y nos dirigimos a una aventura. Aunque la isla de Galiano es una pequeña franja de tierra en el mar de Salish, hay mucho por explorar.
Our immediate thought was to head up Bodega Ridge, which was conveniently just up the road from the cabins. The views atop the ridge-line were stunning and not too difficult to get to. The dense old-growth forest on the way up keeps the ascent interesting. Ferns litter the forest floor, while giant Douglas Firs tower overhead.
Nuestro pensamiento inmediato fue dirigirnos a Bodega Ridge, que estaba convenientemente cerca de las cabañas. Las vistas sobre la línea de la cresta eran impresionantes y no demasiado difíciles de alcanzar. El denso bosque antiguo en el camino mantiene el ascenso interesante. Across the street from the cabins we were able to easily access the beach for sunset. It isn’t your typical sandy beach, but is still the perfect spot to watch the sun dip below the horizon. Bring your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset from the bench someone so graciously left there.
Al otro lado de la calle de las cabañas pudimos acceder fácilmente a la playa al atardecer. No es la típica playa de arena, pero sigue siendo el lugar perfecto para ver el sol sumergirse bajo el horizonte. The cabin itself was just the right size and gave way to ultimate comfort. Large windows and skylights maximize on what little sun we get in the Pacific Northwest winters. There are no TV’s, which gave us some time to read, play games, and enjoy each others company. After a long day, the cabin has a giant bath tub which my partner fully took advantage of as I cooked dinner. The cabin and Galiano was the perfect escape to solitude, while providing adventure and a wonderful way to reset after busy work weeks.
La cabina en sí era del tamaño justo y daba paso a la máxima comodidad. Grandes ventanas y tragaluces maximizan el poco sol que tenemos en los inviernos del noroeste del Pacífico. No hay televisores, lo que nos dio algo de tiempo para leer, jugar y disfrutar de la compañía de los demás. Después de un largo día, la cabaña tiene una bañera gigante que mi compañero aprovechó por completo mientras cocinaba. La cabaña y Galiano fueron el escape perfecto a la soledad, al tiempo que proporcionaban aventura y una forma maravillosa de restablecerse después de ocupadas semanas de trabajo.
