The Creek Before | Lost Gear

Climbing Essentials For The Motherland of Crack Climbing, Indian Creek

Long days cutting across sharp corners, and withstanding countless falls is why one of the most important parts of my kit is a durable and reliable rope.

The safety of a good rope brings peace of mind when going for that almost out of reach crux.

As I make my way up the wall knowing I have one last piece of gear to place. One last cam to set, and I have done it, I will be in the clear to top out.

I find my spot and slot the cam perfectly into place. It fits like a glove and I know it is not moving. Inching my way up past its safety, the end is in sight. Yet I somehow loose my footing and come crashing down.

That properly placed piece of equipment saved me a nasty fall.

The last thing I want is to worry about having left something important behind, or as to where my tape might be when taking on the legendary cracks at Indian Creek.

As any climber knows long day at the crag can be painful for our feet. With my full lace up TC Pros I have complete control of the major hot spots for my feet.

With the soft sole I can twist and jam my feet comfortably while maintaining the ultimate grip on these slabby sandstone walls.

I take a deep breath and try to quiet my mind as I approach the crux on one of the final climbs of the day. Adrenaline trying to fight its way into my body and the heat of the day adding some unnecessary moisture to my hands.

I reach back into my chalk bag and lather some fine unicorn dust on to my hands. One last exhale and I top out, flashing the climb of the day.
